ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia’s largest and most-loved charities, helping thousands of Australians every year find hope in the midst of all kinds of personal hardship. The Salvation Army offers the opportunity to use your skills and expertise to make a real difference in the lives of people who need help most.

Salvation Army bands, mostly playing brass instruments and percussion, perform all around the world and have existed for well over a century. They play an important part of the Army’s visible evangelical presence in the community, proclaiming the Christian Gospel through music. They are well-known for appearing in public at special events, festivals and significant times of the year such as Christmas. These public performances also serve to raise awareness of The Salvation Army’s community work and such, they also significantly benefit fundraising activities. Ranging in size from a quartet to 40 or more, Salvation Army bands regularly tour to share in the joy of music with traditional, classical, and more contemporary styles including jazz and songs from famous musicals.
Whilst there are a number of elite, regional, youth and fellowship Salvation Army bands, the Corps bands’ prime purpose is to be an evangelistic tool for Sunday worship services. Band membership serves as an inclusive pathway for new members to connect in fellowship and to express their faith through their musical gift.
