Description:
The VAT Accountant roles is based in London. The role has a dotted line into the UK Tax Team and supports UK VAT compliance activity. The VAT Accountant’s primary responsibility is for preparation of the UK Quarterly VAT Return for the UK branch which includes Leasing and Commercial Finance business lines.

Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a VAT Accountant, you will be at the heart of our client’s finance operations. Your primary responsibility will be the preparation of the UK Quarterly VAT Return for the UK branch. You will extract data from various IT applications, verify this data, and analyse transactions by applying UK VAT rules. You will also conduct product, fees/charges, transactional reviews following internal SOPs and HMRC VAT compliance guidance. Your role will extend beyond these tasks as you support the UK Tax team with ad hoc VAT advisory requests and contribute to ongoing MTD process and systems refinements.
- Prepare the UK branch VAT return by extracting data from various IT applications, verifying the data, analysing transactions by applying UK VAT rules.
- Conduct product, fees/charges, transactional reviews following internal SOPs and HMRC VAT compliance guidance.
- Ensure adequate record retention and compliance with HMRC documentation and process requirements.
- Participate actively in ongoing MTD process and systems refinements as required.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of VAT processes via SOPs, process notes, checklists etc.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Internal Control requirements and identify improvements where required.
- Initiate and implement improvements in relation to the VAT return preparation process.
- Support the UK Tax team with ad hoc VAT advisory requests.

The ideal candidate for this VAT Accountant position brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in tax accounting. You are an ACA (or equivalent) or CTA (part or fully) qualified tax professional with 2-5 years’ experience in preparation/oversight of UK VAT returns and providing ad hoc VAT advice on a range of topics. Your strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, will be key to your success in this role. Your ability to learn quickly, work in an agile manner, and manage a wide range of stakeholders will set you apart.

- 2-5 years’ experience in preparation/oversight of UK VAT returns and providing ad hoc VAT advice on a range of topics.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Quick learner with ability to work in agile manner.
- Strong organisational skills with experience of managing a wide range of stakeholders.
