Description:

PROVIDE STATUTORY SERVICES TO OUR MODERN GROSVENOR MINE! WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK!

Safe. Smart. Sustainable. Probably not the first words you typically associate with mining. But Anglo American is not your typical mining company. Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to “re-imagine mining to improve people’s lives”, delivering the metals and minerals that make modern life possible – from mobile phones to medicines.
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
Established in 2016, our Grosvenor Mine is an underground steelmaking coal operation based in the township of Moranbah, QLD. Situated only fifteen minutes’ drive from the Moranbah North Airport and with an expected life of mine until 2039, Grosvenor is here to stay for the long-term growth of your career. We offer modern facilities for camp accommodation with a short travel time of only five minutes from the mine site, Anglo American housing options and healthy meals!
Grosvenor Mine has two exciting opportunities for an experienced Ventilation Officer to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moranbah, QLD. You will be able to display a high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills which will be instrumental in your success in this role.

Reporting to the Ventilation & Gas Superintendent, your key accountabilities include:

  • The implementation of the mine’s ventilation system and the establishment of effective standards of ventilation for the mine
  • Ensure the mine’s air quality is measured and recorded under section 362
  • Maintain all ventilation system changes in the mine and ensure all ventilation control devices are properly constructed and maintained
  • Work closely with the BCO Ventilation & Gas team and provide strategic advice on short to medium term mine development to optimize the value of the mine in terms of ventilation
  • Assist with the management, planning, implementation and monitoring of the underground mine ventilation and gas drainage systems to ensure effectiveness against legislation and site requirements
  • Maintain the mine’s statutory compliance with the Coal Mine Safety and Health Regulations by implementing and maintaining gas monitoring systems

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Queensland Ventilation Officer Certificate of Competency for Underground Coal Mines (RSHQ)
  • Formal qualifications as a Ventilation Officer being recognised by Queensland or the ability to gain mutual recognition
  • Demonstrated experience in an underground coal mining operation as well as specialist knowledge in ventilation
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to influence and build relationships throughout the site
  • A strong background in ensuring hazard identification and risk assessment principles, coupled with the compliance of all ventilation matters relating to legislation and the site safety management system

WHO WE ARE

We aim to lead the industry by pursuing ever safer and more responsible ways of working, demonstrating integrity, and showing care and respect for people and the planet. That means we are constantly seeking new opportunities to mine and process our products sustainably, using less water, less energy and more precise extraction technologies. As the custodians of coal and other precious natural resources – diamonds (through De Beers), copper, platinum and other precious metals, iron ore and nickel – our extraordinary teams work safely and collaboratively, with the utmost consideration for local communities, our customers and the world at large.
