VETERINARY GRIEF COUNSELLOR
Company: VCA Canada Animal Hospital
Location: Calgary, AB
VCA Canada Animal Hospital is currently welcoming a Grief Counselor to join our team. As a Grief Counsellor, you will provide support and guidance to individuals and families who are experiencing the loss of a beloved pet. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of pet owners by offering compassionate counseling services tailored to their specific needs.
- Excellent communication skills of a quiet and unobtrusive nature.
- A knowledge of human loss is essential as it can be adapted to pet loss as one learns more.
- Demonstrate active listening while offering a compassionate and non-judgmental space for clients to express their feelings of grief and loss.
- Assess clients’ emotional and psychological needs related to pet loss.
- Develop personalized treatment plans and goals to address grief and promote healing.
- Knowledge of the qualities of dogs, cats, lizards of many sorts, horses, and small rodents.
- A love for all companion animals!!
Qualification
- A master’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is required.
- Previous experience in grief counseling or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with pet owners or in veterinary settings is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to empathize with individuals experiencing pet loss
Schedule
- This work can be done from home using lists and Client/Patient labels provided by the clinic.
- There is often in-person consultation depending on the client’s request and needs.
