As part of the broader Legal & Compliance Team, BlackRock’s Digital Enterprise Legal team provides legal support to BlackRock’s revenue-generating technology business lines and financial advisor and institutional client engagement and education platforms; supports BlackRock’s data, technology, and markets infrastructure; and enables innovation by managing the company’s intellectual property strategy and assets.
Your role and impact
Digital Enterprise Architecture Legal, a sub-group within BlackRock’s Digital Enterprise Legal, is seeking an experienced, business-minded commercial transactions attorney with a focus on technology to join our team. You will work with internal clients globally across multiple business lines and functions in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment to strategically support business operations within technology and enterprise services, human resources, marketing and professional services. You will help advance BlackRock’s modern approach to supporting our clients through partnerships and relationships with a variety of third parties, include Fortune 500 companies, industry leaders, and innovative start-ups.

Your responsibilities

  • Analyze, present and advise BlackRock’s functional and management teams on corporate and business law issues.
  • Structure, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements in the following areas:
  • Technology – business software licenses, hosted services, cloud and infrastructure, digital marketing and network telecom.
  • Professional Services – advertising and marketing agency agreements, audit and tax services, general consulting, facility and business operations.
  • HR – recruitment, employee benefits, education and training.
  • Engage and meet with business partners on a regular basis to plan, prioritize and advise on key strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver educational seminars to key business partners and stakeholders on contractual risks and best practices with respect to third-party service provider relationships.
  • Work in a fast-paced and business-oriented environment with business groups throughout BlackRock.

You have…

  • Corporate transactional experience, preferably with a background in finance, technology, information security and data privacy related matters.
  • Experience negotiating complex critical enterprise-wide agreements for Fortune 500 as well as start-up companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyze legal and commercial risks and propose creative, business-oriented solutions while minimizing risk to BlackRock.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively and concisely communicate complex legal issues to a non-legal audience orally and in writing and be a dedicated business partner to internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to effectively work as part of a sophisticated legal team, and to assess, calibrate, communicate and handle evolving priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a commercial transactions attorney in a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience in the asset management industry or related financial industry highly desirable.
  • J.D. (US), or LL.M. (US) with state bar qualifications, or equivalent law degree and membership in good standing to the equivalent bar association.
  • Initiative, attention to detail, and a collaborative working style.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple competing, and often evolving, priorities and deadlines.
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written.
