Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.

JOB DESCRIPTION - WHY WE NEED YOU!

As our nonprofit organization undergoes rapid growth, we are seeking a dynamic individual to guide and optimize key areas, fueling and securing our expansion and increased impact. Reporting directly to the Chief Growth Officer (CGO), the Vice President of Finance & Administration will primarily supervise finance, human resources, legal compliance, organizational infrastructure systems, and administration.
In this pivotal role, the Vice President serves as a strategic thought partner and an actively engaged leader, overseeing leaders of internal teams responsible for finance, human resources, Salesforce, information technology, and legal compliance. This involves aligning their efforts and common goals to ensure a cohesive organizational strategy. The successful candidate must demonstrate the skills to cultivate and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders.
Balancing tactical and strategic elements, the Vice President manages existing systems while proactively anticipating and assessing the need for new systems essential to future priorities. The Vice President is responsible for maintaining current operations’ efficiency and driving the organization toward sustained growth and success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven nonprofit senior leadership experience in finance and administration.
  • Strong skills in delegation, training, coaching, and motivation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and legal best practices.
  • Salesforce Certified Administrator, or willingness to become certified administrator within 90 days of hire (at MCP’s expense).
  • Extensive experience in reporting, budget development, and financial management.
  • Understanding of government contracting, foundation grants, and complex revenue streams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in finance and administration systems and methodologies.
  • Tech-savvy with a track record of implementing innovative systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Versatile project management ability with a focus on scalability.
  • Passionate about making the world a better place, particularly through education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five (5) years in nonprofit financial planning/management
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience, including supervising team leaders
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status is desired.
  • Experience in developing systems, considering both strategic vision and technical processes.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with executive staff and the skilled and trusted members of our departmental teams, the Vice President of Finance & Administration will play a central role in developing, implementing, enhancing, and sustaining essential operating systems, information, and financial business strategies for MCP.
This leadership role entails defining crucial performance metrics and strategic goals for both multiple departments and the organization, overseeing their assessment, and ensuring clear and efficient communication of outcomes to the executive team. We seek an individual capable of maintaining adaptability in response to industry shifts, while also introducing innovative ideas to enhance operational efficiency.
The responsibilities outlined below provide a summary of the primary focus areas for this role within each MCP function. Additional duties and responsibilities may be allocated as necessary to bolster MCP’s overall success and adaptability.

Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Align the purpose, direction, and goals of teams reporting to you with our organization’s mission and strategic direction.
  • Foster cross-functional coordination through collaboration with leaders across the organization.
  • Directly supervise leaders of Finance, HR, and Salesforce teams
  • Assess workload and staffing requirements, making recommendations for additional support.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, provide feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Strategically plan for the growth, development, and skill enhancement of team members in your reporting line.

Finance and Accounting

  • Prepare financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and the annual budget.
  • Conduct financial analyses based on the organization’s financial position, revenue/expenditure issues, strategic priorities, and market trends.
  • Ensure the production of robust and timely monthly financial statements, offering a clear and insightful overview of the organization’s financial health and performance; prepare presentations for the Executive Team, the Board of Directors, and the Board Finance Committee.
  • Develop the financial model for the organization and the business model for individual products.
  • Oversee organizational accounting and finance procedures led by the Senior Finance Manager.
  • Lead updates and implementation of business policies, accounting practices, and financial management and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team, accountant, and auditor to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Create a plan for operational support of e-commerce transactions in the MCP swag store.

Human Resources

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the Director of HR, ensuring effective management of HR systems and processes.
  • Utilize legal and compliance knowledge to support the Director of HR in developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives while ensuring adherence to employment laws and regulations.
  • Assist in managing employee benefits programs such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits, working closely with the Director of HR.
  • Support the Director of HR in implementing performance appraisal processes, setting performance standards, and monitoring employee performance to align with organizational goals.
  • Ensure availability of essential equipment, staffing, and systems necessary to support effective remote work, and maintain smooth operations by addressing needs promptly and efficiently.
  • Stay informed about statutory and regulatory changes affecting HR systems, and provide guidance to the Director of HR to ensure compliance.

Data Strategy and Technology

  • Establish and cultivate relationships with external IT consultants.
  • Oversee the administration and utilization of core MCP systems.
  • Implement and manage IT service and request protocols for streamlined technical support.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive multi-year IT strategic plan.
  • Safeguard end-users with robust and secure hardware/software systems.
  • Proactively identify and execute technological process enhancements across various departments.
  • Drive optimization of Salesforce utilization to support all organizational departments and functions.
  • Oversee technical administration of Salesforce, including customization, integrations, and data management, led by the internal Salesforce Administrator.
  • Guarantee the accuracy and integrity of fundraising and program data for reporting and analysis purposes.

Legal Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws and regulations.
  • Conduct thorough reviews, negotiations, and monitoring of service contracts.
  • Ensure punctual completion of compliance-related filings.
  • Supervise timely payment and accurate recording of state and federal taxes.
  • Manage business and charitable-solicitation registration requirements.
  • Continuously assess and uphold organizational insurance policies.
