Wealth and Personal Banking has four key business areas responsible for efficiently bringing the best of HSBC to our clients through a broad and relevant suite of wealth and retail banking capabilities: Asset Management, Global Private Banking & Wealth, HSBC Life, Retail Banking & Strategy and COO & Digital Transformation.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Vice President, RBWM Risk and Control.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Ensure that WPB has a robust and compliant Business Risk Control capability within ‘First Line of Defence’ to follow the Global model. This includes supporting the areas of control risk assessment and monitoring, global standards implementation and quality assurance overall
  • Provide guidance to WPB teams for adherence to both internal and external directives from ‘Second Line of Defence’ including but not limited to Financial Crime Risk and Regulatory Compliance Risk.
  • Protect the Bank and WPB from potential operational loss (tangible and reputational losses)
  • Coordinate presentation material for the Risk Management Meetings, Management Forums and others as needed
  • Support WPB Senior Management on compliance and operational risk matters and represent WPB as point of contact for ‘Second Line of Defence’
  • Provide guidance and support to WPB teams in conjunction with Regulatory Compliance, Legal, Risk, Financial Crime & Fraud Risk, Information Security Risk, Resilience Risk and all WPB businesses locally
  • Cultivate strict compliance and operational risk culture within WPB
  • Business and customer consideration for compliance and operational risk measures
  • Develop an effective and professional workforce
  • Build networks within WPB and across functions to provide expertise and implement Risk and Controls capability
  • Foster effective operational risk culture within WPB
  • Identify and share best practices with business, function and stakeholder, and heighten control standards
  • Ensure that WPB has a robust and compliant Business Risk Control capability within ‘First Line of Defence’ to follow the Global model. This includes supporting the areas of control risk assessment and monitoring, global standards implementation, and quality assurance overall
  • Ensure adherence to Group Standards, Regulatory and Group Audit requirements
  • Maintain strict internal control and ensure that controls are operating effectively
  • Effective use of Ops Risk tools (including RCA, CMA & review, HELIOS), Key Indicators and Dashboard, Management Self-Identified Issues (MSIIs) and Audit Database to mitigate risks
  • Effective management and responsibility for application and scoping of global generic Risk Control Assessments within WPB
  • Ensure full control monitoring programmes are in place and that they are robust and fit for purpose

Requirements

  • Good understanding of operational risk and controls, preferably gained through experience in front line and risk roles
  • A good understanding of Financial Crime Risks and MAS notices on Security Futures Act/Financial Advisory Act
  • Proven problem solving skills with ability to consider alternative and lateral solutions
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to prioritise and work independently under pressure within a team environment
  • Knowledge of the changing regulatory environment
  • A sound knowledge of the Group and the WPB business, including products & services
  • Leadership, management and coaching skills
