Description:

Job Title: Volunteer & Outreach Specialist
Reports to: Assistant Director
Work Location: Lansing, MI
Base work schedule: Monday – Friday, Full Time, 40 hours per week
Compensation: $21.21/hour plus benefits
General Responsibilities: Develop and implement outreach initiatives that align with the Agency’s core mission, including public speaking, community events, social media management, and Agency publications. Recruit, screen, and coordinate Agency volunteers. Assist with volunteer training, support, and reporting. Manage volunteer appreciation events and opportunities. Assists with website maintenance tasks.

  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to promote awareness of the Agency’s mission and services. Maintains outreach calendar to plan outreach activities throughout the Agency’s service area.
  • Designs, coordinates, orders, and maintains an inventory of Agency outreach materials and brochures. Assists all Agency programs with flyer and handout creation.
  • Researches, develops, and posts content for multiple digital platforms, social media, and the Agency website including engagement activities, advocacy opportunities, and public and volunteer e-newsletters.
  • Coordinates website content and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with local organizations and community leaders to establish partnerships and referral networks. In partnership with Information and Assistance team, attends community meetings, shares information with staff, and makes regular updates to Agency website resource lists.
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for prospective volunteers, reviewing incoming volunteer applications and routing them to appropriate program. Assists with screenings as needed.
  • Supports each Agency program in their efforts to ensure volunteer applications, background checks, confidentiality forms, photo releases, training documents, and other required materials are complete and up to date.
  • Oversees Administrative Volunteer program and maintains contact with each Agency program to review current volunteer needs.
  • Maintains a volunteer database using current software for all volunteers.
  • Assists with recruitment efforts by connecting with local service groups, civic organizations, and businesses to offer presentations and meetings on how to become a volunteer.
  • Manages volunteer appreciation opportunities and events.
  • Maintains and implements Agency-wide Volunteer Processing Procedure, Volunteer Handbook, and volunteer job descriptions.
  • Prepares reports on volunteer hours, volunteer longevity, demographics, and others as requested.
  • Develops and maintains Agency Speakers Bureau including recruitment and training of volunteers
  • Recruits, coordinates, and serves as day-of point person for fundraising event volunteers.
  • Assists with Advisory Council and Administrative Board meetings
  • Represents the Agency at meetings as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Commitment to the organization’s missions and goals.
  • Computer skills sufficient to learn specific departmental software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information regarding all aspects of participant, volunteer, and agency information.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish good relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, funders, and vendors, including strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Ability to represent the Agency in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to meet department standards with regard to job knowledge, participant focus, initiative, productivity, communication, teamwork, and attendance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Experience with social media marketing and digital content creation required.
  • 1+ years of experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred.
