Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The VP, Employee Experience is a key member of the CMH Executive Leadership Team (ELT), tasked with strategically enhancing the employee experience at CMH. This role is responsible for the strategic oversight of our employee programs and practices as they relate to full cycle recruitment, performance management, payroll and benefits, engagement and retention, development initiatives, and overseeing occupational health & safety functions. This role will collaborate with human resource leaders across Alterra Mountain Company locations and champion best practices in the industry.

EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE LEADERSHIP

  • Lead and provide strategic guidance to the Employee Experience department, which includes Health & Safety.
  • Possess a deep understanding of labour relations, international HR processes, employment legislation, and legal regulations.
  • Offer strategic counsel to management and leadership on HR best practices and people management interventions.
  • Spearhead organizational development initiatives across the organization.
  • Oversee performance management initiatives to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Play a critical role in reviewing and refining the current compensation structure, providing recommendations to ensure CMH offers a competitive compensation package across our geographically dispersed communities.
  • Lead succession planning initiatives to maintain a robust leadership pipeline at CMH.
  • Promote and encourage a learning mindset at all management levels.
  • Utilize employee engagement data to drive meaningful organizational changes.
  • Manage the budget of the Employee Experience department.
  • Drive organizational design and change management strategies to cultivate a culture of high-performing teams.
  • Build and sustain trust-based relationships with all employee levels, enhancing open communication and credibility for the Employee Experience function.
  • Identify and implement innovative approaches to enhance organizational culture, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Lead and spearhead mental health programs that acknowledge CMH as a trauma-informed organization and implement initiatives that support employees affected by critical incidents.
  • Lead and champion of CMH Sustainability initiatives.
  • Collaborate on Alterra-wide solutions with senior HR leaders from across Alterra.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPHR designation required.
  • 15-20 years of experience in the Human Resources field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract.

COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER QUALITIES

  • Proven experience in a VP of HR role or a comparable senior-level HR position.
  • Previous experience as a member of an executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and implementation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of organizational development theories and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of the critical role occupational health & safety plays in fostering an organizational culture that prioritizes employee safety.
  • Experience working in trauma-informed organization.
  • Experience developing mental health programming to support employees impacted by critical incidents at work.
  • Previous experience delivering HR best practice in the context of hospitality or high-quality service delivery required; experience within the outdoor adventure industry, preferred.
  • Ability to tackle challenges with a problem-solving mindset, underpinned by strong critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Exhibits authentic leadership qualities, including the courage to hold others accountable.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR functions, including talent management, recruitment, organizational design, compensation plan design, payroll, and benefits.
  • Proficient in utilizing metrics and analytics to drive HR initiatives.
  • A passion for the mountains and a belief in the power of experiential travel.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with notable facilitation and public speaking capabilities.
  • Innovative and adaptable to change, particularly in strategic change management.
  • Proven ability to mentor and coach, with a strong passion for developing leadership skills in others.
  • Maintains a high level of discretion when handling sensitive information.
