The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President Global Finance, Strategic Planning & Business Partnering, this position will lead a team to manage Cochlear’s financial reporting obligations, provide technical accounting expertise to support strategic transactions and business practices and manage the finance and accounting methods, practices and procedures. It will also oversee the finance partnering to Cochlear’s Global Supply Chain team to assist in the development of strategic plans, monthly IBP forecasts and budgeting.

Other responsibilities include…

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the groups consolidated monthly internal accounts for 30+countries, highlighting variances and key issues.
  • Accountable for global accounting and internal policies, ensuring adherence to AIFRS, ensuring polices are maintained and up to date, ensuring Global Finance remains up to date on the latest accounting standards and in compliance with Corporations Law and other relevant standards.
  • Responsible for coordination and preparation of financial accounting Audit Committee and Board Papers, including Group P&L, Balance Sheet and those related to new accounting policies.
  • Oversee coordination and preparation of half year and full year statutory financial reports, including ASX and ASIC reporting. Review and ensure accuracy of statutory financial statements and notes plus supporting schedules.
  • Manage the relationship with Cochlear’s external auditors, ensuring resolution of audit issues.
  • Support and assist People & Culture in preparation of Remuneration report, providing financial data and ensuring compliance with Corporations Law and other relevant standards.
  • Support Head of Investor Relations and VP Global Finance, Strategic Planning & Business Partnering in co-ordination and preparation of the Cochlear Annual Report
  • Oversee Global Supply Chain Partnering team to provide business partnering to the SVP of Global Supply Chain across 5 manufacturing sites.
  • Oversee all aspects of manufacturing accounting including standard costing, manufacturing variance analysis on material, labour and overhead costs, and inventory and warranty management including forward looking trends and analysis.
  • Accounting guidance and treatment for material transactions and new investments and acquisitions
  • Partner and work with areas such as Tax, Treasury and Business Partnering
  • Key contact with regional financial controllers for ad hoc analysis and queries and guidance on finance policy and practice
  • Promote continuous improvement and streamlining of processes and systems either in the Finance Team or utilisation of Shared Services in line with an enterprise-wide transformation program of work.
  • Inspire and develop the team to provide high quality and efficient service and strategic business partnering to foster strong relationships between the business, the Finance and Legal teams globally

  • Prior Financial Control experience in an ASX-listed company, including preparing financial statements, accounting policies for Audit & Risk Committees Executive and Board presentations
  • Proven track record in delivering strong financial stewardship, driving compliance and a strong internal control environment
  • Effective cashflow, FX risk and capital management
  • Successful FP&A track record including budgeting/forecasts, management reports and analytics
  • Successful strategic and commercial partnering experience including understanding growth drivers and business levers.
  • Experience in manufacturing and inventory accounting will be highly regarded
  • Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills and effective in building collaborative cross-functional relationships across geographies
  • A continuous improvement mindset and track record of delivering best practice in Group and shared service finance functions
  • Motivated to lead a team with a track record of engaging and developing talent to deliver best practice finance partnering
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to interpret and synthesize data implications
  • Experience in Tier 1 systems and system process improvements including ERP and BI
  • Strong in Microsoft Excel, and advanced financial modelling
  • Professional accounting qualifications (Chartered, CPA or CIMA)
