Reports to: Head of Global Tax
POSITION OVERVIEW:
As the leader of the Indirect tax function, you’ll be responsible for shaping and creating the team’s VAT, HST/GST, sales, use, property and business license tax strategy. This role will be responsible for the development of a Global Indirect Tax function within the organization including developing policies, building an offshore Global Indirect Tax Team, investigating and implementing technology platforms designed to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the company’s indirect tax function, and developing the compliance strategy for Global Indirect Tax (i.e. all in-sourced, co-sourced, outsourced etc.). You will deliver in-house tax expertise focused on improving profitability and business performance. You will be front and center, driving and influencing efforts on legislative tax issues and regulations along with leading the company’s audit defense efforts. You will also lead strategic thinking and key indirect tax process improvements in the indirect tax space.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Tax, CPA preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, or Accounting.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in both industry and tax consultancy positions working in indirect tax management, implementing and using automated indirect tax systems and practices.
- Experience with ASC450 required.
- Strong skills in leading a Global indirect tax team.
- Extraordinary oral and written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse groups.
- Dedicated to deployment of process improvement to mitigate risk and add value.
- Proven experience with tax engine software implementation and maintenance; Thomson Reuters, Vertex, and ERP systems.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with ability to engage in, prioritize, and perform multiple ongoing tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated understanding of complex tax concepts; must be flexible, adaptable, and resourceful.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Additional Information
Responsibilities:
- Establish global indirect tax policies and procedures; coordinate roles and responsibilities with offshore Indirect Tax function
- Define indirect tax technology specifications and interfaces with company ERP systems; responsible for maintaining, documenting, and supporting indirect tax systems required to ensure proper compliance with jurisdictional tax laws, including use of OneSource Indirect Tax Engine, SAP, Alteryx, Business Intelligence, and other automation tools.
- Create value for by engaging with business operations personnel to review business transactions with a view towards minimization of the amount of indirect taxes that are applicable or not fully recoverable.
- Direct opportunities for refunds of prior taxes and work to minimize future overpayments.
- Responsible for documenting and maintaining Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and policies and procedures for indirect tax processes, including ASC-450.
- Oversee the compliance for global indirect taxes, including out-source compliance providers, preparation of tax returns, determination of nexus, jurisdictional audits, protests, and risk/reserve analysis for financial statement purposes.
- Perform due diligence, risk assessment, and integration activities for merger and acquisition transactions for NIQ.
- Direct indirect tax staff, external consultants, and communication within the matrix; collaborate within and across the Tax and Finance functions.
- Responsible for reconciliation of general ledger accounts and journal entries related to indirect taxes in accordance with policies.
