DESCRIPTION

The Warehouse and Material Distribution Driver is responsible for driving delivery vehicles (24’ box truck, cargo van, step van & flatbed utility truck) to distribute material, supplies, and equipment to various UCSD Campus facilities, including locations not physically located on the main campus.
This position will occasionally serve in a backfill capacity with other warehouse units and must be open to cross-training and supporting our receiving unit, as needed. Incumbent serves in a front-line capacity in Receiving & Distribution for interactions with customers and vendors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to pass a Livescan Criminal Background check, Reference check, and Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License (Class C)
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a truck with Gross Vehicle Weight of over 26,001 lbs (15 ton vehicles).
  • Must have experience operating distribution or utility vehicles, for example, box trucks, cargo vans, step vans, and/or flatbed utility trucks.


    • Ability to disassemble and assemble pieces of furniture and/or equipment, utilizing appropriate manual or power tools and follow written instructions.

    • Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate safely a truck with Gross Vehicle Weight of over 26,001 lbs (15 ton vehicles).

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NOT REQUIRED)

    • Commercial Driver’s License - Class A or B with Haz Mat Endorsement
    • Knowledge of hazardous goods and the regulations in transporting them on the roads.
    • Certification in Hazardous Materials, in accordance with part 172, Subpart H of code of Federal Regulations title 49.
