This position is responsible for the implementation of programs and procedures in order to achieve corporate waste management strategic objectives.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the implementation of programs and procedures in order to achieve corporate waste management strategic objectives. Key responsibilities of the position include public information strategies and targeted education related to awareness and diversion. Objectives will be achieved through activities such as community partnerships, communication strategies, exploring new or changed waste and recycling practices and working collaboratively with businesses and service providers.
Essential Duties

Specific to this role:

  • Develop specific programs and policies to define objectives, outline methodologies, reinforce organizational support; develop supporting procedures
  • Interact with various stakeholders to obtain/exchange information including large group presentations
  • Apply communication techniques to positively convey objectives to a number of audiences, i.e. school-age children, businesses, residents and internal colleagues; develop materials and presentations related to communication
  • Assist in the management of curbside pickup services by interacting directly with customers, applying customer service and issue resolution, collaborating with service providers
  • Recommend, undertake and evaluate pilot studies for new initiatives.
  • Review and develop partnerships with other municipalities and private organizations
  • Implement annual and recurring awareness programs
  • Define targets to provide clear objectives in written form such as Council reports, by-laws and procurement agreements
  • Apply change management methodologies to achieve new or changed objectives
  • Prepare written reports and present to Council and waste advisory committees on waste and recyclable management, achievements and propose new initiatives.

As a member of the professional team:

  • Develop and administer procedures and recommend resources to achieve strategic objectives
  • Complete continuous research, analysis of industry trends, issues to remain knowledgeable in own areas of responsibility
  • Manage stakeholder interactions in the supply and receipt information, analysis and resolution of issues
  • Partner with internal process or program owner to share program objectives, analyze gaps, provide advice on actions to be incorporated in other’s processes, champion this program or service
  • Manage customer service concerns, investigating, problem solving and responding as appropriate
  • Maintain documentation and or databases and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements
  • Monitor the contracted resources (if applicable)
  • Provide data to allow reporting and decision making
  • Procure services and goods related to areas of responsibility
  • Contribute to the development of annual program needs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary diploma in Environmental Technology or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Willing to participate in ongoing development, training and additional certifications as appropriate for the position
  • Knowledge of Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, Municipal Act, Environmental Protection Act and any other legislation related to the position
  • Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills; Excellent written communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated customer service skills at a level to develop and maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of financial budget and business planning processes
  • Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times, complying with all applicable privacy legislation and local policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet and any other related software
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
  • Possess and maintain the absence of a Criminal Record. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search will be required
