An exciting opportunity has become available for a Water Quality Analyst Level 3 - Microbiology to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water on a full-time, permanent basis.
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will perform routine and non-routine analyses of samples from a variety of environments, using a range of equipment in accordance with procedures to meet customer quality and time expectations and regulatory and operational requirements. Daily duties include receiving and processing of microbiology samples, analysis of results, data entry, quality control, checks and calibrations, and maintaining the sterilisation laboratory.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
This is a laboratory-based role requiring a team member who can undertake collection and analysis of samples, which may include water, soil, sediment, and spoil with the following skills:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Microbiology or minimum one-year experience within a related scientific discipline
- Ability to use computers and tablets and associated software, including Microsoft Windows and Office and various mobile devices
- Ability to learn computer software packages used within a laboratory (e.g., lab information system, and scheduling software)
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of handling and storage of potentially hazardous materials.

Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Routine biological analysis of water and wastewater products in accordance with procedures
- Sample preparation, extraction, concentration and analysis of water and wastewater products in accordance with procedures
- Ability and willingness to learn new tasks, methods, instruments and equipment, as appropriate
- Complete tasks on time, to expected quality and at the expected cost
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure customer requirements are met and operations are efficient
- Demonstrate understanding of the quality system and quality requirements relevant to the position
- Provide guidance in areas of quality and safety and provide relevant training - Work cooperatively with team members to ensure customer requirements are met and operations are efficient
- Identify and report potential opportunities to optimise assets, equipment, systems and processes
- Undertake problem solving and troubleshooting in the field or within the Laboratory and assist team members with problem resolution
- Carry out internal audits as required and in accordance with training provided
- Knowledge of and compliance to NATA accreditation requirements relevant to the role
- Demonstrate continued willingness to cross train and be amenable to rotation through all areas of Laboratory Services, as appropriate
- Work safely, undertake risk assessments and report hazards and incidents
