Description:

SUMMARY:

To carry out drinking water sampling activities using data quality assurance/quality control protocols. To document and maintain the drinking water quality data in formats to satisfy the Safe Water Drinking Act, and the Provincial Drinking Water Regulations and Standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of a two year Community College program in environmental science or technology or equivalent of education and experience.
  • Trainable as a Water Quality Analyst as defined under the Drinking Water Regulations and to take the Ontario Education and Training Consortium (OETC)/Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Exam for the License to be a certified Water Quality Analyst.
  • Must be able to satisfy the License requirements of OWWCO/MOE requirements and receive the Water Quality Analyst License within three months of receiving the appropriate training.
  • Well developed computer skills and knowledge of various computer software programs.
  • Written and verbal skills.
  • Must be physically fit to perform field work.
  • Valid driver’s licence and a good driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
    CUPE 157 Pay Group 8 – Minimum $67,043 annually; Maximum $75,285 annually
    Expected Work Location: 360 Niagara St
    Hours of Work: Currently Monday – Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm

  • Conducting the drinking water sampling surveillance program, according to the Provincial regulations.
  • Collecting samples throughout the drinking water distribution system using appropriate quality assurance/quality control protocols.
  • Maintaining sampling equipment and supplies in order to conduct the sampling program.
  • Maintaining the field and laboratory data in a form to satisfy the legal audit requirements of the Drinking Water Regulations and Standards.
  • Conducting the notifications required under the Drinking Water Regulations and Standards.
  • Preparing reports to satisfy legal reporting deadlines.
  • Conducting special drinking water monitoring programs as required.
  • Conducting regular operations and environmental services staff training with regard to all aspects of drinking water distribution system monitoring.
  • Performing other similar and related duties as required
