Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Developer for the UT College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications works with the Digital Communications Manager to ensure functionality of all web properties in the college. This position ensures timely website updates, information accuracy, and website security across all college web properties. The web developer will manage website updates for departments; support development and implementation of the Intranet platform; assist with building websites under the college umbrella; and conduct analyses of web properties.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Detailed knowledge of web coding and standards and the process of ground-up website development
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web languages and frameworks, particularly PHP, JavaScript, and bootstrap
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Detailed knowledge of web accessibility standards, web best practices, and the principles of user-centered design
  • Knowledge of SEO
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects on a rolling delivery schedule
  • Ability to present concepts and designs to campus partners or team members in a clear, confident manner
  • Ability to produce creative work within a system of established templates and content delivery systems
  • Ability to exhibit sound judgment; work well independently and as a member of a collaborative team; act professionally; provide and be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism; be a self-motivated learner; teach, mentor, and share knowledge with others; and build and maintain good customer satisfaction for the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of web coding and standards and the process of ground-up website development and accessibility standards
  • General knowledge of the principles of effective communication, marketing, and advertising (particularly in online media)
  • Advanced interactive design and information architecture skills
  • Basic ability to design graphics for web
  • Ability to think conceptually and critically and make use of good political and negotiation skills
  • Advocates for best practices in electronic communications
  • Knowledge of higher education.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in web/electronic media or related field, and at least 3 years of professional experience directly related to website development.
In lieu of a bachelor’s degree candidates can have a high school diploma and at least 7 years of professional experience as a web developer/designer.

PREFERRED EDUCATION

Master’s degree and at least one year of professional experience directly related to website development

Responsibilities:

  • Build websites for the college, including mapping and wireframing, establishing WordPress instances, developing Custom CSS to new theme, and other support pieces of website development for departments, programs, and other units in the college
  • Assist with IT maintenance to the college administrative gateway (internal SharePoint site)
  • Research WordPress versions, plug-ins, accessibility, etc., as they apply to current best practices in digital communication
  • Update departmental websites with news posts and other relevant information as they are submitted
  • Conduct routine website updates for departments, including updates to staff, faculty and student directories
  • Run analytics and provide Search Engine Optimization (SEO) guidance and best practices to optimize department websites
