The West Vancouver Community Services Department is currently seeking casual Weight Room Attendants to join our highly qualified team. We offer clients a friendly, professional service, fun environment and state-of-the-art equipment. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safety and general operations of the fitness center and its patrons. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to members, including: instructing members on the use of equipment and ensuring members are adhering to the Weight Room’s code of conduct;
  • Setting up and monitoring equipment and keeping the equipment and Weight Room clean; and,
  • Providing administrative support with weight room operations.
  • Performs related work as required.

The successful candidates will have completed secondary school, supplemented by weight training, fitness and other recreation courses and have a minimum of 6 months experience as a weight room attendant or experience in a similar role. Knowledge of the theory of movement, body mechanics and the prevention and management of sports injuries would be an asset. The ability to answer questions, instruct individuals, and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the facility is essential. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, enjoy working as a member of a team, feel strongly committed to building community and have a passion for helping others.
The following current certifications are also required: BC Recreation & Parks Association Basic Fitness Leaders Certificate for Weight Training or equivalent; Standard First Aid Certification (or equivalent/higher certification); CPR Certificate and AED Certification.
The successful candidates will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.

Union (WVMEA) - Casual
Hours of Work:
Hours and days of work will vary and may include weekends, early mornings, and/or evenings. Shifts may be scheduled at the Gleneagles Community Centre and/or West Vancouver Community Centre.
Starting Rate of Pay:
$25.94 plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
This position has a pay structure with five steps which increases based on the number of hours worked.
