POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years of Fitting/Welding structural steel experience.
  • Completion of three year apprenticeship program in Metal Fabrication or Welding
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes.
  • Ability to weld.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
  • Organization Skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities.
  • Communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Fabricating, Assembling and Fitting Structural Steel.
  • Rig, hoist and move materials to and from workstation. Performs crane checks daily prior to use to ensure the crane is in working condition, if applicable.
  • Lay out reference points and symbols on the structural steel according to the blueprint.
  • Assemble and fit metal sections and plates using tack welding, bolting or other methods.
  • Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding.
  • Set up and operate various equipment such as torches, drills, various clamping tools, squares, disc grinders and other hand held tools.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
  • Mentors apprentices and junior fitters by sharing knowledge and safe work practices
