Description:

The Westside Community Care Coordinator is responsible for nurturing holistic mission delivery on the Westside. The Westside Community Care Coordinator ensures that specific community needs in West Kelowna/Westbank/Peachland are shared with the Mission Board and Management Team and supports strong collaboration across the MU that ensures Westside congregation members and CS guests continue to be fully embraced within the OC3 family.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in Biblical Studies, Worship Ministry, or related field.
  • Internal Child Abuse Prevention training modules to be completed during probation.
  • Internal SA EDS training modules (Introduction to EDS, EDS Food Services, Incident Command, and Emotional and Spiritual Care) to be completed during probation
  • Alternate combination of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 1 year of related work experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Wholehearted support for the mission, vision, values and culture of The Salvation Army.
  • Possesses the personal qualities and attitudes that respect and maintain the spirit, dignity and individuality of guests and staff.
  • Passionate for building gospel-centered relationships with children, youth and families.
  • A demonstration of personally knowing Jesus through spiritual disciplines, relationships in the church and participation in community faith practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
  • Ability to train, supervise and support volunteers.
  • Creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong administrative, organization, written, digital and verbal communication skills.
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record check clearance
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • Proven ability to serve marginalized individuals in a multi-cultural social service setting.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as an active, contributing member of the Management Team and Pastoral Care Council for OC3.
  • Working in collaboration with Corps Officers, Community Services Director, Operations Director, ensures proper coordination of all programs/services/personal interactions on the Westside support the Mission/Vision/Values/Culture of The Salvation Army and affirm OC3’s Local Commitment Statement and Action Plans.
  • Attends regular team meetings with mission partners (employees and volunteers) on the Westside, ensuring they have ongoing opportunity to provide ideas/suggestions for greater mission impact and to raise concerns/issues impacting effective mission delivery.
  • Plans, prepares, coordinates, and leads congregational events/programs/services on the Westside in support of church members, mission partners and CS guests. This may include, but is not limited to discipleship programs, fellowships, activities for children/youth, etc. Is strategic in creating opportunities that will enhance the integration of CS and church ministries, expanding Westside’s Kingdom reach.
  • Works to support the establishment of a strong, supportive team mindset across the Westside operations.
  • Contributes effective change management and conflict resolution practices, when needed, to strengthen internal relationships.
  • Provides Spiritual Care for Westside Pathway of Hope guests (training to be completed during probation).
  • Supports Spiritual Care for Westside mission partners by leading devotions and being available for prayer and supportive conversations.
  • Supports healthy families through the provision of programs, resources and connections/referrals to our Community Services and other agencies.
  • Works in consultation with Volunteer and Kettle Coordinator to support general coordination and to ensure that all volunteers serving on the Westside are appropriately recruited, screened, assigned, and trained for service.
  • May support the Thrift Store by filling in when store staff are away on vacation or due to illness.
  • Actively supports and coordinates OC3’s broad fundraising efforts.
  • Provides administrative support and coordination to the development of OC3’s annual budget, providing input into Westside needs related to the scope of their work.
  • Ensures the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
  • Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with church members, guests of Westside Community Services and mission partners.
  • Engages regularly with Westside Community Services guests and mission partners, endeavoring to link them to the OC3 church family and church programs where possible.
  • Assists/supports the Corps Officers in providing pastoral care to individuals and families on the Westside. A willingness to make home/hospital pastoral visits is expected.
  • Works closely with the Program and Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Coordinator to support active EDS responses affecting West Kelowna, Westbank and Peachland, in particular in the area of Spiritual and Emotional Care. May be called upon to support EDS responses in Kelowna and/or Lake Country.
  • Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of Westside program participants (children, youth, parents). Ensures that all Territorial Abuse Policy requirements and child protection protocols are consistently observed in the running of any Westside children/youth/family ministries.
  • Regularly reviews/evaluates Westside activities to ensure maximized mission impact and adjusts practices appropriately.
  • May support congregational ministries as needed, at the request of the Corps Officers.
  • Will be called upon to support coordination of special events within community (i.e., Westside Daze).
  • Participates in staff training and development.
  • Active ongoing participant in Church Renewal Mentorship
