We are looking for an individual with a passion for the natural sciences to join our team as a Biologist/Wetland Ecologist in either our Calgary or Edmonton office. Specific experience in wetland assessment, vegetation, and soil classification is of particular interest. The successful applicant will be a professional biologist and bring experience that experience to our public and private sector clients. As well, this position can offer an interesting variety of field and office work on a diverse range of projects that include biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, and monitoring of environmental impacts. Although the position will be based in either Calgary or Edmonton, travel throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Northern Canada is anticipated.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU A GREAT CANDIDATE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Professional designation (i.e., P.Biol or equivalent), with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge and practice in wetlands in the Prairies including assessments, mitigation and monitoring.
  • Be a wetland practitioner as directed under the Alberta Wetland Policy with Authenticating Professional designation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard resources, tools (e.g., the Digital Regulatory Assurance System [DRAS], OneStop, etc.) and best practices as well as provincial environmental legislation and policy (proficiency under municipal and federal jurisdictions is considered an asset).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public. Public consultation experience is an asset.
  • A strong track record in Health and Safety management.
  • Ability to travel and work in remote locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and/or conducting biophysical assessments with a focus on vegetation, wetlands, and soils.
  • Preparing reports, conducting reviews and analysis.
  • Providing senior review for reports prepared by juniors.
  • Developing environmental protection/mitigation plans.
  • Preparing proposals including scopes of work, budget estimates and formal RFP submissions.
  • Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.
  • Contributing to ongoing project management best practice implementation.
  • Staying current on technical and sector-based trends and legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.
