Hitachi Rail is looking for dedicated Wheel Lathe Technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The position is based in London at Bounds Green Train Maintenance Centre.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this exciting role you will be responsible to carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third-party rolling stock and provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment.
- Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
- Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment.
- Carryout wheel turning for Hitachi and third party rolling stock.
- Post operation checks and adjustments.
- Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
- Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
- Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
- Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE
- Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
- Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
- Good team worker
DESIRED SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE
- Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel
- Network Rail Sentinel PTS
- Depot driving and shunting.
- First Aid at Work
- Forklift
- Over Head Gantry Crane
- Wheel Lathe operations & maintenance
- Lathe Manufactures Training & Certification
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent proven railway experience.
- Engineering based NVQ level 3.
