We are calling all aspiring organic chemistry superheroes! We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our SUIKI startup team at TDK as a Bond Braker - Organic Chemistry Working Student (m/f/d). As a Bond Broker, you will harness your superhuman engineering skills to tackle water-related challenges, in the field of emerging contaminants, with unwavering determination and save the day! You will combat the hidden threats of emerging pollutants and safeguard our precious water resources like never before!

What you can expect

  • Conduct Laboratory Experiments in Garching: Operate and maintain an electrochemical oxidation setup to treat synthetic water samples contaminated with PFAS.
  • Prepare Synthetic Water Samples: Accurately mix and prepare synthetic water samples with predefined concentrations of PFAS for experimental use.
  • Experiment Execution: Carry out experiments according to the established protocols to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of electrochemical oxidation in destroying PFAS compounds.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Monitor experiments and collect data on PFAS destruction efficiency and other relevant chemical parameters.
  • Protocolling Experimental Results: Document all experimental procedures and results comprehensively in laboratory notebooks and digital formats. Ensure that all data is recorded systematically for future reference and reporting.
  • Assist in Research Development: Support the research team in developing new protocols and refining existing processes to enhance the effectiveness of PFAS treatment.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Assist in routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise to ensure continuous operation.

What you bring to the table

  • Current Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Laboratory Skills: Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, particularly with electrochemical systems. Knowledge of water treatment technologies such as adsorption or membrane filtration will be considered a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to handle complex data.
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and an ability to follow complex instructions accurately.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
