EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Completed a post-secondary certificate/ college diploma program in the field of Children/Youth
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with children and youth programming, youth leadership; supervisory experience coaching, leading, and motivating volunteers.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain and maintain current certificate

  • Self-motivated/disciplined with effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well within a cooperative team environment and follow the direction of the immediate supervisor
  • Possess strong interpersonal and conflict management skills, including the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality

  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate a clear vision for child/youth ministry
  • Possess a passion for the spiritual development and well-being of young people, and a love for the Church
  • Agree with, and committed to teach and promote sound Christian doctrine, understanding and accepting the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army and the church
  • Ability and willingness to participate fully in the life of this church as part of our worshipping congregation.

  • Valid Alberta Class “5” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Youth & Family Life Coordinator will organize and facilitate spiritual formation and development opportunities for youth, children, and families within Edmonton Temple Community and Family Services. This will include promoting integrated mission with the corps (church) and Family Services. The Coordinator will work to provide/facilitate programming and resources for children, youth and families.
This is a full time position at 35 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program
  • Works in partnership with the Community Ministries Coordinator for Community and Family Services to create and promote Youth programs to serve CFS clients.
  • Contributes to the spiritual development of children and youth by mentoring, discipling, encouraging and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
  • Develops new programs to encourage the spiritual development of children and youth
  • Coordinates and maintains programs relevant to youth and children within the Corps as well as in the community at large.
  • Assists in the evaluation of youth and children program within the Corps and Community and Family Services.
  • Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children and families of the communities (includes communication to leaders, acquiring resources, volunteer recruitment and training) and the church body.
  • Plans and conducts creative worship services, outreach, discipleship programs and implements ORANGE curriculum.
  • Organizes and supervises programs for community and Corps children on PA days and during summer holidays, March Break, and any other appropriate occasions.
  • Recruits and registers children and youth for Salvation Army provincial camping programs and other regional and divisional events.
  • Follows up with children/youth who attend The Salvation Army camp programs, including their families, in order to build relationships and establish active links with the Corps and its mission and ministries.
  • Works alongside Community & Family Services in school partnerships when applicable.
  • Provides direction to various programs through Corps and community ministry.
  • Assists the Corps Officer in the pastoral care and spiritual development of children and their families by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviors.
  • Maintains written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
  • Supports client registration for seasonal programming.
  • Connects with children and families outside of programming to aid in building trusting relationships.
  • IS a link between corps ministry and family services ministry.
  • Strategizes for youth ministries and future planning for the same.
  • Plans events to promote integrated mission, connecting Youth from community with Corps
  • Represents The Salvation Army on related community youth committees when necessary.
  • Interacts with Community Partners to determine local Youth and family resources.
  • May be required to attend and/or transport children to/from camps and outside activities as needed.
  • Volunteer Coordination and Management
  • Recruits, directs, and supervises volunteers for children and youth programs.
  • Gives oversight and ensure ongoing training of youth leaders/volunteers.
  • Deals with volunteer complaints and incident reports
  • Prepares, posts, and maintains all volunteer schedules in accordance with operational requirements ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions
  • Ensures completion of police checks for volunteers, statement of applicant for work with children and youth forms, and online abuse prevention and health & safety training.
  • Financial and Administrative
  • In collaboration with the Corps Officer and ministry team maintain the annual budget, ensuring diligent stewardship of resources.
  • Maintains records and provide program evaluations and/or statistical information as required by CO/CMO/DHQ/THQ.
  • Implements policies and procedures for Youth Ministries in collaboration with the Corps Officer.
  • Performs administrative tasks that support program objectives in collaboration with Admin Assistant.
  • Attends youth networking and Community meetings as required by the Corps Officer.
  • Actively participates in meetings with Corps Officer inclusive of PEAC.
    Performs other position-related duties as assigned.
