Youth Worker – Alternative Suspension (Full Time, Contract)

Salary: $46,663.00/year - $58,328.00/year
Start Date: May 1st, 2024
End Date: May 1st, 2025 (with possible extension until November 1st, 2025)

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;

  • Post-secondary education in social work or other related fields (psychology, specialized education, sociology, criminology, etc.)
  • Have 2 to 3 years of experience in youth intervention
  • Ability to work per a flexible schedule
  • Excellent administrative abilities
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

The Youth Worker will:

  • Intervenes with secondary school students on an individual basis and in a group setting
  • Supervises and supports students with assigned schoolwork
  • Primary Youth Worker facilitates group workshops on topics related to the issues faced by program participants (anger management, responsibility, bully, etc.)
  • Primary Youth Worker communicates regularly with Youth Engagement Manager and additional youth workers on activities completed as well as participation and engagement of students present.
  • Maintains strong partnerships with schools that refer students to the program
  • Communicates with parents on an as needed basis (e.g. when the student is absent)
  • Completes other general administrative duties
  • Adheres to the YMCA Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection and Procedures and Code of Conduct
  • Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy, and participates in Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events
  • Must be able and willing to travel between Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot, Saddletowne YMCA, and Shawnessy YMCA.
