About the role Reporting to the Executive Manager, Research and Outcome Measurement, this role plays a pivotal part in shaping how The Salvation Army understands and improves its impact across Australia. As a Senior Research Analyst, you’ll lead and mentor small teams of researchers to deliver high-quality research, evaluation, and outcomes measurement projects. Your work will help drive evidence-informed practice that supports people experiencing hardship and injustice. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven role within a supportive, cross-disciplinary team—ideal for someone who leads with integrity, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning. This is a full-time, maximum-term maternity leave cover role until July 2026, with salary aligned to SCHADS Level 6. This is a hybrid position, offering a mix of working-from-home and in-office. You can be based in either Melbourne (Blackburn, VIC) or Sydney (Redfern, NSW). How you will make an impact Lead or supervise the design and delivery of research, evaluation, and outcomes measurement projects that inform service improvements and strategic decision-making—ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard. Mentor, guide, and support geographically diverse team members to achieve project goals and foster continuous improvement and learning. Conduct fieldwork, focus groups, workshops, training, interviews, and surveys according to best practice. Analyse and synthesise qualitative and quantitative data, identifying trends and patterns to provide valuable insights and recommendations. Conduct statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel and/or software such as SPSS within agreed deadlines. Ensure ethical handling of sensitive and confidential data. Produce high-quality reports, literature reviews, and communication materials that clearly convey findings and recommendations. Identify and address team performance issues, escalating to the Manager as needed. Engage stakeholders through clear, compelling presentations and updates. Build strong relationships with internal teams, frontline services, and external partners to support project success. Coordinate resources and travel logistics to keep projects on track and within budget. What you will bring Minimum 3 years’ experience in qualitative and quantitative research, evaluation or impact measurement. Minimum 2 years' experience leading or mentoring teams in research, evaluation, or data analysis. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in complex environments. Strong skills in translating research findings into actionable insights. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage stakeholders and present complex data clearly. Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R, SAS). High attention to detail, initiative, and self-motivation. Bachelor or Postgraduate degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Health, Community Services, Social Work, or a related field. Desirable Experience in the not-for-profit or community services sector. Understanding of trauma-informed and ethical research practices, especially when working with vulnerable populations. A valid Working with Children Check may be required depending on project assignments.
