Job Overview
A large-scale fermentation facility is seeking a Process Technology Lead to serve as a key subject matter expert in fermentation engineering and yeast physiology. This role is crucial for defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), overseeing continuous improvement programs, and ensuring industry-leading fermentation performance. The successful candidate will work with cross-functional teams across various departments including Manufacturing, Process Sciences, Supply Chain, and R&D.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become an expert on all process technology deployed at the manufacturing location.
  • Serve as a thought leader in fermentation technology to help shape and define continuous improvement strategies.
  • Define KPIs for each on-site fermentation process and lead projects to drive their improvement.
  • Supervise a team of process technologists, mentoring them on data analysis and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead and support optimization initiatives to increase yield, reduce cycle time, and enhance safety and product quality.
  • Collect and statistically analyze process data to build models that support data-driven decisions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in aseptic design, SIP (Sterilization in Place), and CIP (Cleaning in Place) systems to reduce contamination.
  • Support downstream operations (centrifugation, filtration, spray drying, evaporation).
  • Assist in the successful technical transfer to manufacturing partners, including the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and equipment qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate customer and internal requirements into actionable plans.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of methods, results, and SOPs, contributing to intellectual property capture and patent support.
  • Uphold and promote biosafety, hygienic design, and quality management standards (e.g., BSL-2, GMP, FSMA, HACCP, ISO).

Requirements

  • Proven industry experience in a similar role.
  • Strong background in fermentation, biochemical engineering, and aseptic design.
  • Expertise in yeast fermentation is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • A strong background in data analysis and statistics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Fermentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
