About Autism 360

Autism 360 is a research-led digital health company helping parents of autistic children build their child's communication, independence and emotional regulation. Our app, VARA, gives families around the world personalised, evidence-based support. For many of them it's the only help they can access or afford.

We're a team of about 55 clinicians, researchers, engineers and operators. We're growing quickly and VARA is at the centre of what comes next.

The role - Founding Engineer

We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to own a large part of VARA's platform, with a focus on our Node.js backend and React Native app. You'll work closely with our Lead Engineer and Product Manager and ship features from spec to production.

This role suits someone with strong fundamentals who likes owning things, learns fast, and is good to work with. You don't need to have done everything before. You do need to be curious, reliable and happy to roll up your sleeves.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain REST APIs in Node.js, Express and TypeScript
  • Design and optimise MongoDB data models
  • Ship features in our React Native app and React web platform
  • Deploy and monitor services on Google Cloud
  • Keep sensitive family data secure
  • Use AI coding tools to move quickly without cutting corners
  • Help shape our engineering practices as we scale

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of professional full stack development
  • Strong TypeScript and Node.js/Express experience
  • Solid MongoDB experience in production
  • Experience with React Native, React or both
  • A good understanding of API security, authentication and handling personal data
  • Daily use of AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Copilot, and good judgement about when to trust them
  • Clear communication and a low-ego, collaborative approach

Nice to have

  • Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, logging)
  • CI/CD and automated testing
  • Python
  • Experience in shipping mobile Apps for iOS App Store and Android Play Store
