Job Title: Intramural Student Leader (ISL)

Availability: Monday - Thursday in the evenings
Reports to: Recreational Sports Supervisor
Compensation: $16.00/hour - $17.50/hour, based on experience and certification
Meeting Rate: $15.00/hour
Location: In person - at MRU Recreation

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Recreational Sports Supervisor, the Intramural Student Leader is a student casual staff responsible for co-coordinating our Intramural leagues which includes all aspects of staff management, league scheduling, team management, administration, mentorship, leadership, and participant conduct and communication. There will be three Intramural Student Leads who will work both as a team to ensure the best outcomes for our Intramural leagues but also will be responsible for guiding 1-3 specific sport leagues within Intramurals.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Must be willing to work with minimal supervisory assistance as well as part of a team
• Willingness to lead, train, and mentor officials and scorekeepers
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal skills
• Open attitude to working with a diverse population
• Ability to make quick informed decisions on the spot
• Extensive experience with the sport

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Current MRU students are preferred
• Conflict resolution experience
• Any additional Scorekeeping, Officiating, or Coaching certifications or experience.

• Ensure that the culture of CAR intramurals is one of inclusion, belonging, and respect for all participants and staff members
• Training, mentoring, and evaluating officials/scorekeepers for respective league
• Communicating with the staff in regards to meetings, issues, and concerns
• Provide leadership, mentorship and support professional development of all officials and scorekeepers in alignment with the CAR Core Competencies
• Support staff with conflict resolution with participants as needed during programming
• Coordinate the startup of all leagues and tournaments, including facilitating the All Captains meeting, collecting and verifying team rosters, and developing league schedules through our League software
• Ensure all materials and equipment are properly prepared for all league nights
• Arrange for playoffs, awards, and recognition in conjunction with Recreational Sports Supervisor
• Maintain and update league records on our league software at least once per week
• Track team fair play ratings for sport and disqualify any teams that fall below acceptable level
• Track MVP nominees weekly for providing the award after the regular season
• Act as Cougars Athletics and Recreation ambassadors by promoting intramural activities and programs on campus through promotional activities as requested by the Recreational Sports Supervisor (classroom info sessions, Main Street, drop-in sports, etc.)
