EDUCATION:
Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or Engineering Science, equivalent education and experience such as a diploma in a related field and a minimum two years of recent related experience in addition to the minimum years of experience listed below.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years recent relevant, practical experience in utilizing power systems teaching equipment, testing power circuits, including at least one year experience in an electrical or power engineering laboratory.
SKILLS:
Knowledge required: In-depth knowledge with using power system teaching equipment such as LabVolt and Lucas Nulle laboratory teaching equipment. Must possess good knowledge in electrical power engineering, topics include:
Three-phase electric power circuits
Electromechanical devices such as power transformers, DC machines, three-phase induction motors/generators, synchronous machines, stepper motors
Power transmission and distribution systems such as (high voltage transmission lines, power flow, voltage regulation, double busbars, insulators, HVDC systems
Renewable energy resources (wind power plants, solar power plants, distributed generation units, energy storage devices)
Power system protection (switches, sectionalizes, circuit breakers, relays etc.)
Power electronics (bridge rectifiers, AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, DC/AC inverters)
Power systems measurement, power quality meters, data acquisition, and supervisory control
Real time simulation using OPAL Real-Time Digital System
Power system simulation programs, including, but not limited to, PSCAD, MATLAB Simulink and ETAP. Basic skills:
Experience and knowledge with hardware selection, installation, testing, troubleshooting. Experience in dealing with high voltage power teaching equipment.
Comprehensive knowledge of government and university health and safety guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with faculty, students and staff.
Familiarity with electronic circuits testing equipment including sampling oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, pulse pattern generators, power-meters, and noise-meters.
Good knowledge with semiconductor device operation and characterization, prototyping boards, data acquisition cards, power supply and function generators, electronic components, soldering expertise (e.g. discrete-on-board), small hand tools, computer interfaces and peripherals.
Good understanding of the key elements and topics related to the laboratory under their care. Desirable assets:
Basic understanding of computer and networking hardware and operating system (Linux). Comprehensive knowledge of software related to courses such as MATLAB and SPICE.
Excellent oral and written communication is necessary to convey equipment details, write experiments and manuals and to demonstrate use and operation to students and other staff.
Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal and analytical skills.
Responsible for providing prompt and courteous service, proactive attitude, sociability and openness. Keeps abreast of changes in the field of laboratory teaching and collaborates with academic staff for a possibility to improve experiments.

Under the general direction of the Director, and in conjunction with the department’s faculty members, the incumbent is responsible for daily activities aimed at establishing and maintaining teaching laboratories. This includes designing, proposing, re-working and/or retrofitting innovative teaching experiments. The incumbent, while possessing, maintaining and seeking an expert level of knowledge of technical matters relating to the courses offered in the laboratories, is responsible for developing, implementing, writing and demonstrating laboratory experiments or/and prototypes for students enrolled in assigned laboratories as well as student laboratory techniques and manuals under the direction of course faculty, keeping the content and resources associated with the laboratories current, and providing documentation on the labs as required for professional accreditation of computer science and engineering programs.
