ABOUT US

We are a small commercial real estate company that owns and operates approximately 10 commercial rental properties in Houston and Conroe, as well as a parking division that owns and operates downtown parking lots. Our Controller will be retiring and we are looking for a full-charge bookkeeper/accountant to fill her shoes when she does. This position is very hands-on and is responsible for all Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll including quarterly and year-end tax filings, and closing year-end books for our CPA firm’s preparation of income taxes. You must have solid understanding of account reconciliations, depreciation schedules, intercompany receivable and payables, and be able to maintain the books for multiple small companies. Please do not apply if you do not have extensive experience in full-charge bookkeeping.
We are located in the Galleria area in a modern, business casual office environment with free covered parking and only 3-5 employees in the corporate office. Hours are 8:00-5:00, 5 days/week (M-F) with no overtime required. This job cannot be done remotely. There are no company benefits so the salary is very competitive. There is potential for additional compensation based on value and contribution to the company’s success. Initial hiring will be as a contract employee for a 90-day probation period.
In addition to accounting responsibilities, this position shares in the management of the commercial rental properties. This includes monitoring tenant rent delinquencies, addressing issues with tenants or on-site property managers, monitoring lease expirations and renewals and assisting in preparation of leases as needed, and the year-end reconciliation of CAM true-ups for tenants.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF APPLICANTS:

  • Proven experience as a Full-Charge Bookkeeper (5 years minimum)
  • Strong, solid understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficient in use of accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop and Appfolio)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
  • Strong analytical skills for account analysis and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with tenants, coworkers, and vendors
  • Proven reliable attendance as this position is key to daily operations
  • Passing a background check and references check
