Salt & Main Accounting is looking to add another rockstar accountant to our team, someone who’s not just numbers-savvy, but also a people-first problem solver with a passion for helping others. In this role, you’ll deliver comprehensive accounting services to clients across various industries, all while working in a collaborative and innovative environment. ABOUT US

Founded in Durango, CO in early 2020, we got our start by providing State And Local Tax support for Main Street businesses (hence the name, Salt & Main). We’ve since grown into a full-service accounting firm, offering everything from general ledger management and payroll processing to payables/receivables and tailored financial reports. At Salt & Main, we partner with real people running real businesses and our job is to support them with more than just spreadsheets. We help them make confident decisions, grow sustainably, and feel genuinely supported.

ESSENTIAL PEOPLE SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the primary contact for clients, managing bookkeeping and accounting needs across various industries.
• Build strong, trust-based relationships while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
• Educate clients on financial concepts, turning data into actionable insights.
• Collaborate with team members to solve client challenges and share knowledge.
• Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally.
• Self-motivated with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
• Adapt to diverse business needs while working directly with clients.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTING SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Code, categorize, and reconcile all accounts (bank, credit card, loan, cash, etc.) with supporting statements or schedules.
• Process and reconcile payroll, including journal entries, accruals, and payroll tax accounts.
• Post and reconcile daily sales with POS systems; prepare and file sales, excise, or gross receipts tax returns.
• Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, including coding, payments, and vendor relations.
• Reconcile deposits, undeposited funds, and audit all financial transactions.
• Prepare profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports.
• Perform additional tasks such as inventory posting, grant/budget tracking, W-9 vendor tracking, and 1099 processing.
• Adhere to GAAP accounting standards and maintain awareness of changing tax and compliance regulations.
• Tailor accounting processes to fit a variety of industries.
