ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
· A minimum 2:2 degree in Law or Legal Studies.
· At least 2 years of experience in commercial debt recovery and litigation.
· Strong understanding of Scots law and legal terminology as it pertains to debt recovery and enforcement actions.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, with the ability to manage and analyse case data effectively.
· Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
· A positive, proactive attitude and the drive to succeed, with a keen interest in personal and professional development.
· Ability to communicate effectively with a range of professionals, including clerks, solicitors, sheriffs, and enforcement agents, on a daily basis.
· Experience must include enforcement law and Scots Law (Debt).
Desirable Attributes:
· Experience working alongside enforcement agents or sheriffs.
· Interest in education and outreach, particularly in the context of promoting legal knowledge to young people.
· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
ROLE OVERVIEW:
As a trained paralegal at Chamberlain McBain, you will be at the forefront of debt recovery, litigation, and enforcement, with a primary focus on cases in Scotland, England, and Wales. You will work directly with clients, solicitors, clerks, sheriffs, enforcement agents, and other professionals to ensure the smooth progression of legal matters. This role requires a proactive and driven individual with a strong understanding of Scots law, commercial debt recovery, and litigation processes. You will be responsible for preparing key legal documents, including letters of demand, sequestrations, and liquidations. In addition, you will assist with our charitable initiative, the School Mock Court Project, which promotes legal education and fosters an interest in the profession among young people.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Debt Recovery & Litigation: Manage debt recovery cases, including the preparation of litigation documents and ensuring adherence to legal procedures across Scotland, England, and Wales.
· Prepare Legal Documents: Prepare and draft letters of demand, sequestrations, liquidations, and other documents related to debt recovery and enforcement.
· Client Liaison & Coordination: Liaise daily with clients, solicitors, clerks, sheriffs, and enforcement agents to ensure the effective handling of cases and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
· Court & Enforcement Procedures: Assist in the preparation of legal documentation for enforcement actions, including sequestrations and liquidations, ensuring all documents are filed accurately and on time.
· Manage Complex Workload: Effectively manage a diverse caseload, ensuring that high standards are maintained while meeting tight deadlines and client expectations.
· Charitable Engagement: Contribute to the School Mock Court Project, helping to promote legal education and encourage an interest in the legal profession among students.
· Collaboration & Professional Development: Work closely with senior solicitors and other legal professionals, gaining valuable exposure to complex cases while continuing to develop your legal expertise.
· Business Development: Assist in promoting the firm and expanding client relationships where applicable.
