The Accountant/Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, internal controls, and the development of accounting policies and procedures. This role combines hands-on transactional work with strategic oversight, ensuring the company’s financial integrity, compliance, and long-term financial health. The Controller will also provide executive leadership with accurate, timely, and insightful financial analysis to guide decision-making and operational efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely closing of books and accurate reporting of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and rolling financial projections.
- Perform variance analysis and provide commentary on deviations to leadership.
- Partner with the CEO to model multiple gross margin and break-even scenarios to guide growth decisions.
- Provide insights on cost of goods, operating expenses, and debt service to support profitability and cash-flow planning.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform periodic internal audits covering accounting, cost of goods, and inventory.
- Maintain proper documentation for contracts, leases, and financing arrangements.
Strategic Finance & Operations
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and key financial partners.
- Support financing efforts, including loan compliance, covenant monitoring, and new funding initiatives.
- Oversee ERP (Fishbowl/QuickBooks) integration to ensure accurate, efficient financial and operational reporting.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Operations on sales projections, purchasing reconciliation, and inventory accuracy.
- Champion the use of AI and digital tools to streamline finance and accounting processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide weekly updates to Purchasing and participate in monthly manager meetings with the CEO.
- Communicate financial performance clearly to leadership, highlighting risks, opportunities, and actionable insights.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve efficiency across finance, operations, and compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (Fishbowl, QuickBooks, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Experience in manufacturing or advanced materials industry preferred.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the CEO.
